Elizabeth and Dana Kellin were always very close. Elizabeth, tagged along with Dana to summer camp when she was only five. As teenagers, they backpacked around Europe together. After working with fashion designers in Italy during her twenties, Elizabeth asked Dana to develop a children's accessory business with her. This " top-secret project" involved accessories with the Barbie logo. But problems arose with their investor. They were forced to hire a lawyer—and that's when Dana Kellin Jewelry began.

"We'd sunk all our personal money into R&D and couldn't pay him. We started making jewelry to raise the money," recalls Dana. Making jewelry had been Dana's hobby while working as a fashion editor for W magazine in L.A. and New York. In those days, Dana gave away her necklaces as gifts. Elizabeth now urged her to try selling them.

"I made up 15 pieces of jewelry and brought them to a rep I knew from W," says Dana. "They were very delicate, sort of Victorian in style, and they just hit. Soon Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox were wearing them on 'Friends.' Within three months we were in Barney's and Neiman Marcus."

He starred on ER from 1997-2003. Since Paul left ER he has directed six episodes of the show and returned in 2008 for one episode during its 15th and final season.

The Kellin sisters officially started Dana Kellin Jewelry in 1994 in Dana's L.A. apartment. "Soon the jewelry manufacturing took up my entire apartment," she says. "We found ourselves holding business meetings in the bathroom."

"In the jewelry industry, there are many one-hit wonders, but we've had great longevity and relevance," says Elizabeth. "Maybe it's because we're meticulous about what we do," adds her sister. "Since day one ... years ago, we've put quality above all else."
