Guitta Corey Paper Collage
Guitta Corey fine art prints and original collages come to our Vermont art gallery with a Vermont small world story. Guitta is an Alaskan artist whose husband is related to long time local friends in Stowe and Montpelier, Vermont. Sherry Niesenholtz actually brought Guitta's Collages to our attention. We have been proud to give Vermont Art collectors a chance to see her fine art collages and framed giclee prints ever since.
Guitta Corey Artist StatementGuitta earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design with a major in printmaking. In 1995 she began working with oriental papers to create collages. She describes her creation of these new and unique works as follows: "For years I have collected oriental paper just for the beauty of each sheet. In 1994 I began creating collage landscapes with those lovely papers. The fantastic qualities of the paper inspire creations which may be about a specific site or about places we may only have seen in our imaginations. The pieces are not drawn with line, but are rather are created from patches of color and texture inherent in each paper."
In addition to her textured paper original framed art, Guitta also creates Giclee art prints. She states, "The process very successfully captures all of the nuances of color and texture which are so important in my collages." Once we receive one of Guiita's art pieces, we ask local framer Lassie Barile to create an unique frame for it. The frames bring out the color and texture in the art prints and preserves each piece so it can be enjoyed for generations.
| Giclee Art PrintsA Giclee art print is a blend of science and art. A Giclee fine art print is superior to that attainable with serigraphy or lithography, because no film, screens or plates are used. Instead, ink is finely sprayed directly on the paper; more than four million droplets each second. The effect is similar to an air brush technique, but the Giclee process droplets are over 35 times finer. They capture the subtleties of original work so well it can be difficult to tell the Giclee art print from the original art.
While the process is digital, the skill of the craftsman in clarifying and proofing color, value, and line, determines the quality of each edition. The artist is a crucial element in the print creation, and final approval is under the artist's command. Every step of the procedure is critical since each edition has its own unique color settings. The result is that Iris Giclee prints can capture all of the artistic nuances of the original work.
At the end of the edition, all digital information is destroyed, ensuring that the edition cannot be duplicated. This step is equivalent to breaking up the stones of a lithographic edition or destroying serigraph screens. |
