Simpson Planet PaperweightsJosh Simpson taught himself blown glass in a simple studio about 1 hour from us here in Stowe, Vermont. Simpson lived in a hand-sewn teepee while his ideas about blown glass developed. Simpson has developed a blue glass which is the background for many of his glass planets and blue glass vases. This deep blue glass has become a signature color by which you can recognize many of Josh Simpson's planets and glass paperweights. Josh Simpson Glass Planet PaperweightsSimpson also creates a variety of paperweights and inhabited planet paperweights and marbles. Some are quite large and called megaplanets. These Simpson Planets vary greatly in size and composition. In the Simpson Glass Studio, Josh and his team of blown glass artists create glass caneused inside his glass planets. Over the course of several months, a wide variety of glass colors and textures are made. These are cut into small pieces. While making a Simpson glass planet, these glass pieces are like painter using his color pallet. Simpson glass paperweights are made one at a time and each glass planet is unique. | Josh Simpson & Astronaut Cady ColemanJosh met Cady while she was at the University of Massachusetts. Cady is an Air Force Colonel and flew aboard the Soyuz TMA-20 spacecraft to serve as a flight engineer for Expeditions 26 and 27. A veteran of two shuttle missions, Coleman's last spaceflight was in July 1999 as the lead mission specialist for STS-93 aboard Columbia. Now, Coleman is a member of the Expedition 26 crew that launched to the International Space Station aboard Soyuz 25 in December 2010. She will return to Earth in the spring of 2011.
