Birch trees are among the most resilient of trees, bending and flexing with the strongest winds or heavy snow. They stand sentinel marking the threshold between this work and the next. They are the bearer of light and represent new beginnings.
These graceful trees inspire Montpelier, Vermont based artist Katie O'Rourke's current body of work. Katie works with fluid acrylic paints, pouring mediums, resists and resin. Hew paintings are both science and art, the process being a balance between calculation and letting go.
Katie's travels have taken her across the country exploring the beautiful landscapes of America. The most recent six month adventure in 2018 was with her husban, two children, and their pug in an RV. Meditatively integrated into her art is inspiration found from the northen woods, the high desert and dramatic coastal shores.
