Valerie Miller Cow Art
Personally meeting each cow is one of the hallmarks of Valerie's work. She visits "the girls" in fields around the world, naming each cow after the actual cow studied in the field. If the cow is unnamed, Valerie chooses a name, often naming the cows for people who have influenced her. Her collection also includes animals that have quickly become favorites of our customers - so we're happy to introduce you to Chloe, Gwen, Benton, Eddie, Oscar and Walter!
Valerie Miller's Artist Statement
Born and raised in Iowa, Valerie Miller grew up surrounded by farms and animals. At an early age she developed a fascination with cattle that she carried with her through college while studying art at Bradley University and business at The University of Iowa. Immersed in the "urban landscape" while in college Valerie began painting cows void of their usual rural surroundings like she then found herself. Today her paintings isolate individual cows from the herd, showing the character of each of "the girls" against a vivid background with an absence of location. The signature of Valerie's work are her large paintings ranging from a few feet on canvas to 25+ foot murals on the sides of buildings and barns.
Valerie owns and operates Steel Cow with her husband Josh, son Edison, and studio dogs Nan and Hank, located in Northeast Iowa. Original paintings by Valerie Miller and Steel Cow products can be found in art and design collections worldwide.
