A brief history of Remarkable Things

Beginning as Shimmering Glass in Waterbury Center 35 years ago, we purchased and merged with Stowe Craft Gallery in 1995. Soon after that we added our interior design center- now rebranded as "Remarkable Home" on South Main Street in Stowe.

Most recently, in 2018, we have rebranded as REMARKABLE THINGS, trying to reflect ever changing mix of unique creations we display. And also to give visitors an idea of the unusual experience that awaits inside or online

While we have garnered local and national recognition with awards, magazine and news articles and videos; our local "Peoples Choice" awards and social media reviews mean the very most to us. Because these come direct from our customers.

Peoples Choice Award

Did you know in our region, we have the 4393 Awards (4393= the height of Mount Mansfield)?

Since they began a few years ago, we have been honored receiving enough votes from customers and visitors to make it to the "Top of the Heap" in several different categories every year:
Best Gift Shop
Best Art Gallery
Best Jewelry Store
And Just last year (2018), Susan was voted Top Interior Designer

Our History with a bit more detail

Stowe Craft is a long established business with it's roots going back to Susan's Stained Glass studio in our Waterbury Center home in 1983.

1993: Ten years later we moved "Shimmering Glass" to a new and large gallery space on Route 100 in Waterbury Center. ( Now where Cabot Cheese and Champlain Chocolates are located, Across from Jimmz Pizza.)

1995: That was followed by purchasing Stowe Craft Gallery in 1995. (Stowe Craft had begun, like shimmering glass as an artist studio. Jean Paul Patnode, ski instructor and potter began as Stowe Pottery right about the same time we started doing stained glass. )

In 1997 we began merging Shimmering Glass into Stowe Craft Gallery and opened our Interior Design Center on Route 100 in Stowe Village.

In 1997, we began replacing our lovely, but rickety, old oak jewelry cases with more contemporary ones. This dramtically improved customers' view of what was inside!

1999: First of several National recognitions by "Niche Magazine" awarding Stowe Craft Gallery a place on the Top 100 American Craft Galleries list.

2001 - present: Stowe Craft Gallery listed in a variety of travel and art publications such as The New York Times, London Mail, Yankee Magazine,New England Traveler and Best of Boston Magazine.

2008: Sales from our stowecraft.com website began making a significant contribution to our store. We began requiring e-commerce skills when hiring inventory managers.

2013: New Tech! We replaced our Hardwired DOS based Point of Sales / Inventory System and Network with a new web based system we purchased from a software company in Rutland Vermont.Soon after, we replaced our hardwired telephone system with our current VOIP system

In 2018, we renamed our stores Remarkable Things and Remarkable Home. (And we'd love to hear from you with any feedback you might share with us about our rebranding!)
