Solitude is a limited edition woodcut print handmade by Jeanne Amato, a long time apprentice and studio assistant of Sabra Field. This print features a strong contrast between bright white snow & trees cast in shadow. The sun peeks through the treeline casting a multitude of shadows atop the snow. Many small details can be appreciated in this print like the subtle shadows cast by the natural topography of the snow or the tracks that cut through the center of the composition. The high contrast of this print makes it stand out when displayed in darker environments.
Solitude became one of Jeanne's woodcuts after discovering the scene while out snowshoeing with her Golden Retriever. She was struck by the hint of color with the combination of vertical, diagonal, and horizontal lines of the scene.
