4 Details to Update a Kitchen
Looking for a few good ideas to update your kitchen? After managing major renovations in several rooms of this this North country vacation home, we came to the kitchen early on, I learned the kitchen was not a major concern. The layout, appliances, lighting and cabinets all worked fine. But with all the interior design improvements in the rest of the house, the kitchen did need a little lift. The recommended changes came down to just 4 ideas. Each of these made a big difference with a low investment of time and money:
- Counter Tops
- Drawer and Door Fronts
- Drawer and Door Knobs
- Backsplash - Wall
I chose a solid white corian for the counter tops. I ordered it with a seamless built in sink of the same meaterial. It presents a modern, clean line. The seamless work area is a breeze to clean, For the door and drawer fronts, I found a through color white laminate. It complements the corian and has no black edges showing at the joints. I was also able to source corian door and drawer pulls from an artist in Europe. The pulls keep the clean desired minimal look.
I felt the backsplash should be used to bring in a little something different from the white on white we had in place. a bit of texture for the back splash. I found a porcelain tile that had a texture like chiseled stone. It also had a slight grey tone. Initially my client said "No!" I suggested it would be worth a special visit for her to come and see it in person. Being a bit away, this was a plane ride. And a few days later she hopped on her plane and flew up. Seeing the backsplash tiles next to the white counter, she was surprised how instantly she loved it. Color is an art and a science. This is a great example of how subtle differences in shade or tone can make a room come alive.
