Expanding Space - Multiplying Details
The bathroom remodel was a part of a larger renovation. The clients wanted to keep the same footprint and wood ceiling. It is a narrow room which they hoped could take on a more spacious feeling.
Color and Mirrors
I developed a more spacious feeling by using light colors, a frameless glass shower enclosure and large vanity mirrors. To add character, I sourced one piece dark bronze corian countertops with light, colorful, mosaic backsplash tiles. We installed bronze colored faucets. They have an industrial feel that complements industrial pieces we used in several other rooms. I also commissioned "His and Her" wooden vanities on opposite walls. I used vanities with legs to give them a lighter feeling.
In the shower area I mixed in a small amount of mosaic tile on the walls. It ties the shower in with colors you see when you enter the bathroom, just a small amount, so we did not overwhelm the small shower space.
We also installed large, made to order, hand milled and painted mirrors. The mirror placement expands the width of the room. It also supports good feung shui, expanding the space and multiplying interesting details.
