Fair skies by William H. Hays is a 7-color, 5x7 linoleum block, linocut print from a limited edition of 100.
Fall in Vermont, an iconic time of year. This print depicts the changing of the leaves from deep green to bright yellows, oranges, and reds. An intricate maze of churning clouds float above watching the trees, watching the leaves fall. People come from all over the world to experience Autumn in Vermont, capturing the essence of the season with this incredible print!
“Autumn is a brief and glorious season in Vermont and capturing it in a work of art is fraught with difficulties. So rather than attempting a literal depiction, I steer toward an abstracted composition which captures the essence of it. The sky and its contrast with the warm colors of the foliage is key in this print. But the challenges of creating clouds by means of carving is considerable. Though this print is small, it was one which took a great deal of time to create. The autumn colored landscape is borrowed from my many years living in Vermont. But I think my appreciation for skies such as this one comes from the many summers I spent in Nova Scotia.” ~ William Hays
