Summer Moon by William H. Hays is a 10-color, 12x9 linoleum block, linocut print from a limited edition of 100.
The forested mountains of the eastern United States have been a part of William Hays' life from the beginning. In summer the humid air creates gauze curtains of atmosphere which partially obscure each layer of hills and forest in the distance. This print is another one of Williams' works that is near photorealistic. The level of detail, from the tiny individual blades of grass popping up in front of the tree line, to the gradient red of the sunset; William truly breathes life into the work.
"The basic idea for this image came from seeing the moonrise in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee back in 1987. The image always stuck with me and I composed this image (almost 30 years later) with layers of transparent hues to get the feeling of that tonal poem of color." ~ William Hays
This archival print in the edition is an original work of art and there are slight variations from one print to the next.
