Living Room Office Combination

In the right situations, it is wonderful having your office in the main living area. The benefits include nice views and more space to enjoy while sitting at your desk.

The challenge for this project was to create an office for my client with accessable storage for her many projects. She also wanted it to look good in the overall living room space.

In my designs, I worked out all the storage and work surfaces on paper until she felt it was perfect for her current projects and also flexible enough to accomodate whatever the future was likely to bring. Some of the ideas we used were:

• A custom made desk with a file drawer on the bottom right.
• Cabinet doors on the left side with individual adjustable shelves for each project.
• Lots of drawers specially designed for all the other stuff she uses.

The desk and chair were made by one of my artists in Texas. His style allowed me to choose a color palette just right for this space. I chose a neutral hand painted palette with metal accents and distressed wood. It is full of interesting textures and subtle paint. While it's an attractive and unique element, it does not take away from all the details in the living room itself.
